It is no secret that the journey towards a career in the film industry can lead to various detours and dead ends along the way. In the business of film, the key is to think outside of the box and discover unconventional ways to become that success story of Hollywood. Did you know that web festivals are extremely instrumental in advancing your career in the film industry? Many known directors, producers, actors and behind the scene cast have made names for themselves through the exposure of web festivals.

Issa Rae; creator, producer and actress on the hit HBO show Insecure won the first web series award in the world at LA WEBFEST for Awkward Black Girl. Web festivals are major game changer that can lead to the road of stardom just by simply creating web content. The Emmy nominated web series Her Story started its official selection at Marseille WebFest France. The series is currently touring the globe speaking on the dating lives of trans women.

SOFLOWEBFEST is excited to have Stacy Ike the host of OWN Tonight as this year’s keynote speaker. Ms. Ike started as an intern at the Melbourne Webfest. Through her outstanding journalism qualities, she was noticed by Emmy award winning director Michael Ajakwe and was given the opportunity to host LA WEBFEST. With perseverance and networking, Stacy made her mark in the industry less than three years.

You can catch her story as a keynote speaker at SOFLOWEBFEST on Friday, December 8th at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex during Art Basel weekend. “Fight for your fairytale” says Stacy and we agree.

Don’t wait for the networks and pilot season – get out there, shoot something festival worthy, and get seen. Many of these festivals have collaborative agreements for their winners to be screened across the globe. 2016 SOFLOWEBFEST winner A.I.S.H.A made its premier on the web festival scene in South Florida and took the show to new heights with praise at LA WEBFEST and ROMA WEBFEST.

The power is with the people. You got this.
